I have always been in search of huge & offbeat waterfalls. Nanemachi waterfall is such a majestic waterfall 400 – 500f ft high which is as huge as the mighty Kataldhar waterfall & has beautiful green-water pond like Devkund waterfall. For years i had read / seen images of Nanemachi waterfall without knowing its name. It remained a secret waterfall for too long. Finally I had the opportunity to visit this Mahad waterfall. I had gone to Kumbhe waterfall in the morning and visited here in the evening. This Nanemachi waterfall trek blog is my story about that special day when we had the entire waterfall to ourselves. More offbeat waterfalls & treks at the end of this post.

Nanemachi waterfall trek is beautiful with green water

Is Nanemachi waterfall trek difficult for beginners ?

Your vehicle directly reaches to the base village (location) of Nanemachi waterfall. From the Nanemachi base village there is short walk ( on flat trail not even a climb ) for about 30-45 minutes to reach this beautiful waterfall. Hence the difficulty level for Nanemachi waterfall trek is very easy for beginners & families as well. Only the last part before the waterfall one has climb few rocks to reach the main waterfall which can be bit hard for oldies. The only difficult part of Nanemachi trek is to travel 3-4 hrs to reach the base village.

How long is the Nanemachi waterfall trek ?

Nanemachi waterfall can be reached in an hour from the base village & another hour to go back. So Niraj did you complete the trek in 2 hours. Well No, i spend another 2 hours enjoying the waterfall. Would have spend more time had the evening not set in.

Food at Nanemachi waterfall

At the Nanemachi base village there are couple of hotels where you will get tasty home made food. Just as the trek starts there is another food hut after which there is nothing else. For hotel contact check the photo below which has a hotel contact number.

How to reach Nanemachi Waterfall from Mumbai & Pune ?

Where is Nanemachi waterfall located? It lies in the Mahad Taluka of Raigad. Nanemachi waterfall is far from both Mumbai ( 200 kms ) & Pune (130 kms). Mahad is the nearest big city. Veer & Sape Wamne ( near Mahad ) are the nearest Railway Station.

Mahad to Nanemachi by Public Transport: Mahad is the nearest big city with good connectivity both trains & bus from Mumbai side. From Pune side you will can reach Mahad via Bhor Ghat and varandha Ghat. As such one can reach here & hire local rickshaw / taxi to reach from Mahad to Nanemachi base village ( 25 kms).

Nanemachi waterfall by personal vehicle: This is my preferred mode of transport as the place is too far away from both Mumbai & Pune and cut journey by local transport would take up lot of time. By personal vehicle just put in Nanemachi waterfall on Google maps (location) & enjoy the ride right till the base village.

As Nanemachi waterfall trek gets more famous I hope better transport options would become available

Want to travel full time ?

The most common question that i get asked is I want to travel a lot but I dont have leaves. Should I quit my job ? I have always suggested to not quit your job unless you have another source of income. In search of this source of income I tried freelancing , trek leading, vlogging and I realised nothing works in the long term. After trying many different thinkgs finally I came across trading

Trading for getting freedom & income is perfect for a person with traveller mindset. You can trade from anywhere around the world be it some off the grid village in Himachal or Meghalaya, be it some island in Andaman. All you need is an internet connection and a trading account. You can earn by trading for 1-2 hrs a day and would have freedom to do anything in the free time.Or you might have just earned enough in a day to take the month off travelling around the world. If you are able to learn this then it has potential to make all your dreams come true. I would suggest you take it up as a side project for 6 months to see if you have patience & intellect to master it.

Nanemachi Waterfall trek Blog : TheFreeBird ‘s Story

Niraj why are you so excited today ??? Well i was researching about this waterfall for years. I had come across Nanemachi waterfall photos many a times where people termed it as a secret waterfall. No one knew its actual name or location for many years. Then all of a sudden in 2022 Nanemachi was in spotlight , viral everywhere . From the time when i got all the required information within 7 days I was at Nanemachi village.

The only tough part of this trek is reaching here. The drive was smooth but lenghty. Earlier in the morning we had gone to Kumbhe waterfall which was an out of this world beauty. Two of the most sought after waterfalls in a single day. I am on a roll. As we were very late after parking our car we immediately started towards the waterfall.

Nanemachi Deadline: Entries are restricted after 4 pm since the forest gets dark

The route is well -marked till the very end hence no one can get lost & no guide would be needed. We had reached late & sun was about to set. Hence had to rush quickly through the trail with very less time for photography. We were literally running to reach before darkness takes over. Finally seeing this secret waterfall after such a long wait got me excited

We passed through paddy fields and huge plateaus to finally reach the jungle part . On the plateau it was very silent and all I could hear was birds. As I started going through the forest the waterfall crescendo started getting louder & louder. I was inching closer to Nanemachi waterfall with every step. Talk about getting hyped.

Passing through the dense forest finally Nanemachi waterfall made a dramatic appearance. All the years of waiting was finally coming to fruition. Just like when you have a song stuck in your mind but you dont know the lyrics or the song name. And after many years you finally find the song . Indescribable joy.

Here was my secret waterfall in front of me gushing out in all its glory . Music to my ears.

We hurried ahead to find out that Nanemachi waterfall cascades through this valley taking about 5-6 or even more falls & that sound resonated in the valley . Wish we had more time to enjoy this serene valley

From here the waterfall was just a stone’s throw away quite literally as there are many rocks just before it. You dont realise the size / the height of Nanemachi waterfall until you get very close to it. As we navigated through these huge rocks the waterfall started to appear huge with every step

The real surprise was after this rocks when we finally reached this huge green pond which changes colour as per day light . Totally reminded me of Devkund just 3X taller. The pond water colour changes as per time of the day i.e with sunlight & with the flow of water. When i reached here the pond was almost transparent & greenish , but changed colour within minutes.

The pond is too large & the waterfall is too huge to capture in a single frame. Only if I had my ultrawide camera which my old friend took away. Make sure to check my YouTube video to get an idea about how big this mammoth waterfall actually is.

I was just too happy to be here at Nanemachi as this place is just of this world. For the people who haven’t been here are just missing out on a spectacular adventure. I cannot market this enough, just go here as soon as possible to witness this grandeur. Its really a wonder.

Looking at this huge Nanemachi waterfall I felt one with nature totally mesmerized by its charm. Itna bada waterfall mere se chhup ke kaise raha tha. I couldn’t just stand there any more as the green pond was too enticing. I started my way into the pond & my plan was to go right below the water shower

The waterfall was too brilliant but didn’t allow to take many photos as the water droplets fell all over the place fogging up the camera lens. Did manage to get photos & videos after many attempts. Checkout this short video on my insta. Follow me 😎

Waterfall philosophy: Look at me being dwarfed by this huge waterfall. We are a small speck in this huge canvas of life. Still we hold on to our huge egos & resentments. Life is passing away in a hurry & we dont have enough time to be holding grudges or looking down upon things. Its our right & duty to cherish every moment with a positive outlook. Fill our hearts with humility & kindness. Be beautiful inside. As Buddha said ” Happiness will never come to those who fail to appreciate what they already have “.

The force of waterfall was very strong. Even though water was getting spread out by the time it touched the pond the speed was just too much. Water droplets easily reach the end of the pond. I tried taking photos from far but the constant water gusts meant half the time i was just cleaning my fogged camera.

I tried to go near the water fall but the flow was too much and the water level started rising all of a sudden. Hence decided against going in any further and just enjoyed the nature’s magnificent creation . I just stood there till my body started to shiver.

Bro Tip / CAUTION

The pond water level rises all of sudden depending on the flow of waterfall which varies to a great extent. At one time i was just standing under the water shower with my feet touching the ground & water till my shoulders, withing seconds i found myself swimming at the same spot as water had risen almost 3 ft in the pond. So if you dont know swimming avoid going in deep even if your friends request you. Similar accidents happened at Devkund waterfall when it had just started to get famous & later local authorities had to intervene for safety protocols. Stay safe.

-TheFreeBird

With our body shivering we quickly reached our car & changed to dry clothes. Today nature God was very kind to have provided the perfect weather to enjoy both the waterfalls . Time for the 200km long ride back home.

Bye !
